Best Practice Exchange on Academic Spin-Offs and Scaling
Academic Spin-offs and International Scaling - Lessons from BW, India, and Singapore
24.03.2026
The internationalisation of science- and technology-based start-ups is becoming increasingly important - particularly for academic spin-offs emerging from universities and research institutions. Bringing research-based innovations to global markets requires not only strong ideas, but also effective support structures, international networks, and practical experience.
This interactive workshop, part of the Asia-Pacific Dialogue Series of the State of Baden-Württemberg, focuses on sharing best practices, practical insights, and real-world experiences from Baden-Württemberg, India, and Singapore.
Rather than conducting in-depth ecosystem analyses, the session will spotlight concrete examples from practitioners who actively promote academic entrepreneurship and support spin-offs in scaling locally and internationally. Through concise presentations and moderated exchange, participants will gain hands-on insights into successful support models, internationalisation pathways, and cross-border collaboration.
India and Singapore have been selected as partner regions because they represent dynamic and complementary innovation environments:
- India offers rapid scaling opportunities in a large and diverse market, strong STEM talent, and impactful entrepreneurship programmes.
- Singapore provides a highly international, well-coordinated innovation ecosystem where research, funding, and market access are closely connected.
The workshop is designed as a platform for learning, exchange, and networking. It connects universities, transfer offices, start-ups, and public-sector representatives from Baden-Württemberg and the Asia-Pacific regions who are interested in strengthening international collaboration in academic entrepreneurship.
The Asia-Pacific Dialogue Series
With the publication of the Asia-Pacific Guidelines, the state government of Baden-Württemberg is sending a clear signal for strategic, future-oriented cooperation with one of the most dynamic regions in the world.
For further information, see here (German only).
Building on this, an ongoing Asia-Pacific dialogue series is being established as an interdisciplinary and best-practice-oriented event forum to strengthen exchange between business, science, politics and society.
The series of events is being organised and carried out by Baden-Württemberg International on behalf of the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg. Content support is provided by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism of Baden-Württemberg.
